July 2013: Dolphin Bay has started trading in Angola, following the delivery of a first consignment of Permacure CCA to our new distributor Gentrade.
Gentrade procures industrial equipment for factories, lodges, supermarkets and other sectors. The company trades in 13 African countries and has been operating in Angola for 20 years, supplying a large amount of forestry equipment, says founder Ricardo Araujo.
There is only one wood treatment plant in Angola, which is not in operation. A new plant, which will be commissioned next month, will be using our chemicals. This plant was set up after Ricardo suggested to the company in question that they add value to the wood they were felling. At the time, the company was using untreated timber to build low-cost housing and fencing.
“I heard of Dolphin Bay through the guys setting up the plant,” says Ricardo, “and I chose to use the company as my supplier because I like Bertus’s commitment to growing his customers’ businesses.
“Gentrade, too, is very customer-focused, so I appreciate Bertus's commitment to providing after-sales service and technical advice. Dolphin Bay bent over backwards for me, like I do for my clients, and this is the kind of approach I can work with going forward,” says Ricardo.
Says Bertus: “The fact that Angolan companies are focusing on treating timber rather than using untreated timber shows the growing maturity of new markets, because they are increasingly producing value-added products.
“It’s fantastic that we have struck a deal with Gentrade. We are confident that trading in Angola will help us expand further into other African countries.”
