February 2013: Dolphin Bay engineers have just finished refurbishing a second-hand wood treatment plant for a company called Modomoyo, based in northern Mozambique. The plant will be shipped back to Mozambique, where Dolphin Bay technicians will reassemble it.
Modomoyo is a new residential property development company, focusing on properties for the local market. The company’s first development will be of more than 1000 homes. Due to a lack of suppliers in northern Mozambique, Modomoyo is building its own sawmill, wood treatment plant and full carpentry workshop, to provide construction materials.
“I bought the plant from Somerset Timbers, another Dolphin Bay client, in Cape Town, and it needed to be refurbished because we will be using a different wood preservative,” says Jack. “We are 5000 km from Cape Town, so we needed to be 100% sure the plant would work when it arrived in Mozambique.
“Dolphin Bay has really been on the ball, very professional and helpful – and has refurbished the plant at an excellent cost. They also understand the African market, which is great.
”Dolphin Bay is pleased it can work within its clients’ budgets, no matter how large or small, says Bertus. “We really want to work with each client, understand what they need and then find a way of fulfilling these needs.”
